Before the world knew him as Saruman from “The Lord of the Rings”, I wrote to Christopher Lee in the 1990s because I knew him as Captain Kleinschmidt from my favorite comedy movie “1941”.  The request for a signature went unanswered for y-e-a-r-s until, out of the blue, it showed up in my mailbox easily making it the longest I had ever waited before for a return.
